Kandis L. KovalskyMember
Kandis is a trial lawyer in Philadelphia. Her practice focuses on a broad range of high stakes business-related civil litigation in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York state and federal courts and arbitral tribunals, and representing relators in high stakes qui tam actions filed under the federal and state False Claims Acts.
In her commercial litigation practice, Kandis routinely handles expedited litigation matters, including temporary restraining orders and injunctions in federal court relating to theft of trade secrets and enforcing noncompete and non-solicitation provisions. Kandis represents both individual and institutional clients in litigation over fiduciary duties, securities fraud, trade secrets, business torts, partnership, shareholder, and Board disputes, contractual disputes, unfair and deceptive business practices actions. Kandis also handles civil RICO actions.
Kandis' whistleblower practice focuses on healthcare fraud on government healthcare payors such as Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE. Kandis has a particular passion for litigating false claims cases relating to the opioid crisis, including claims for illegal activity committed by drug companies, providers, and pharmacies. Kandis does not just pursue claims against companies, but against the executives and individuals responsible for the fraudulent schemes. Kandis also has a particular interest in holding healthcare-focused private equity firms responsible for the fraudulent acts of their portfolio companies. Kandis litigates and manages complex qui tam cases in which the government declines to intervene. While many whistleblower lawyers often do not have the experience or resources to litigate complex declined cases, Kandis utilizes her extensive experience and background as a commercial litigator to successfully prosecute declined cases.
Kandis oversees and participates in Kang Haggerty's hiring of associates and staff. Kandis is active in the legal field and Philadelphia community. She is a member of and active participant in the following organizations: Taxpayers Against Fraud (TAF), a non-profit dedicated to advancing the interests of whistleblowers and fighting fraud against the government; National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF); Philadelphia Bar Association; American Bar Association (ABA); and National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA).
Before she attended law school, Kandis was a competitive figure skater for fifteen years. While at the University of Delaware, Kandis was an eight-time Intercollegiate National medalist.
Kandis resides in Philadelphia with her beloved cat, Popple. In her spare time, Kandis enjoys live music, traveling abroad, Peloton workouts, reading, and trying new restaurants in Philadelphia.
