Edward Kang to Present Strafford BARBRI CLE on Emerging RICO Risks for Personal Injury Attorneys

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Edward T. Kang, Managing Member of Kang Haggerty LLC, will serve as a panelist for an upcoming Strafford BARBRI CLE webinar, “RICO Suits Against Personal Injury Lawyers: Mitigating New Risks from Standard Practices; Impact on Underlying Cases,” scheduled for October 28, 2026.

The 90-minute program will examine the growing use of civil RICO claims by insurers and corporate defendants against personal injury lawyers and related professionals. The panel will explore how practices traditionally viewed as commonplace within the plaintiffs’ bar are increasingly being scrutinized as potential evidence of alleged Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act violations.

During the webinar, presenters will discuss developing case law, ethical considerations involving relationships with medical providers and referral sources, litigation strategies for defending against RICO allegations, insurance coverage considerations, and the broader impact these cases may have on underlying personal injury litigation. The program will also address steps attorneys can take to reduce risk and strengthen their ability to respond to frivolous allegations.

“RICO litigation has become an increasingly important issue for personal injury practitioners and their clients,” said Kang. “Understanding how courts are evaluating these claims and how routine practices may be characterized in litigation is essential for attorneys seeking to effectively manage risk and protect their clients’ interests.”

The CLE webinar is designed for attorneys and legal professionals and is eligible for CLE credit in most jurisdictions. The program will be presented live and subsequently made available on demand through Strafford BARBRI.
